Why will my standard Schlage door lock no longer work after being picked?

I have a standard Schlage door knob that has a key lock. I locked both my keys in my room and had a locksmith come out and pick the lock, however after he left I realized my key no longer worked. The knob came with a reset key, do I need to use that in order to get the factory key working again?
