Got wrong key and had to break window of door to get back inside the house did I do right?

I once called a locksmith and charged me 300 dollars (was at night on a holiday) so we thought the most cost effective thing to do was break the window of the door and slide our hand through to open. Did we do right? I wished my home insurance would cover our foolishness in getting the wrong keys!
