Need to find a CHEAP new car key replacement in Raleigh Area?

My son lost his key to his BM last week and was quoted �136 from BMW dealer. A friend told him to ask for a basic key if he didn't need a fob key etc and it cost �40. BMW dealer didn't mention this as an alternative solution. So this might be a possiblilty
