Should the apartment landlord in NYC responsible for the cost of door lock repair?

I'm a current apartment tenant in Queens. The lease was sign by my friends who already left the country. However, landlord has noticed that we moved in, and we continue pay monthly rent fee. Basically, landlord doesn't live here. She comes here once a month to collect money. Last time the door lock to my apt was broken, and I paid it myself. Apparently, this time we got burglar broke into my apt by crowbar. Police came to do investigation and finger print. We called Locksmith to fix and replace the dead bolt lock. But the landlord refused to pay. I had to advance the money since I was the one who call locksmith that night. What should I do? It's a lot of money.
