Can a locksmith re-key my mustang trunk lock?

the lock on the truck of my car (96 mustang) is missing. the part is discontinued so im planning on getting it from the junk yard, however a lock smith has already told me the later models may not be possible to re-key. as any one ever rekeyed a lock on mustang 94 or later
